Hormonal life stages

Hormonal change in midlife affects far more than the obvious. Energy, sleep, mood, body composition, bone and cardiovascular risk all shift, and the changes arrive gradually enough that they are often attributed to ageing in general rather than to something measurable.

Programmes in this area

Postmenopausal health

Comprehensive care for the years around and after menopause, when changing oestrogen affects bone density, cardiovascular risk, body composition, sleep, mood, skin and urogenital comfort. Assessment covers hormonal status, bone health and metabolic markers, so decisions rest on measurement rather than assumption. Management may include hormone therapy where it is clinically appropriate and wanted, alongside nutrition, resistance training and sleep work. The emphasis is informed choice: evidence on hormone therapy has shifted considerably, and the right decision depends on your own history, timing and priorities.

Andropause

Assessment and management of the gradual decline in testosterone and the changes that accompany it in men, affecting energy, motivation, mood, muscle mass, body composition and libido. These symptoms overlap heavily with sleep debt, stress load, insulin resistance and thyroid dysfunction, so the programme measures rather than assumes, testing testosterone alongside metabolic and thyroid markers. Where treatment is appropriate it is physician-supervised and monitored over time. Where the real driver turns out to be sleep, metabolic health or stress, addressing that directly is often more effective than hormonal treatment.

Common questions

What is assessed?

A structured symptom and history review alongside hormonal and metabolic bloodwork, including thyroid function, vitamin D, lipids and glycaemic markers, with body composition and bone health considered together rather than separately.

Is this only relevant to women?

No. Hormonal change in men is slower and less clearly demarcated, which is exactly why it tends to go unassessed. The same principle applies: measure rather than assume.

What are the management options?

They range from lifestyle and nutritional approaches to medical management, and the right answer depends on your symptoms, your measurements and your own history. All options including their benefits and risks are discussed so that the decision is yours.
